Free, open and powerful, Quelea is designed to handle the projection requirements of a typical church. It's a relatively young project but fast growing and flexible. If there's anything you'd like to see in Quelea, let us know!

Attach audio to schedule items

Often when you want an item in your service to display, such as a powerpoint presentation, you may want to run a CD at the same time. With the next version of Quelea however, you won't have to manage a CD player, you can attach a digital track to any item in your schedule to play when it's being displayed to the congregation.

Simply right click a schedule item and click "add audio", then select the file you want to play. You can of course clear it in the same fashion!

Video backgrounds - a video!

Normally with these sorts of things I post a picture, but the concept of "video backgrounds" is somewhat at odds with a static image. Here's a quick video showing the start of the functionality that will be in the next major version of Quelea!

Video backgrounds are here!

A couple of weeks or so ago, there was an email to the discuss list enquiring about the state of video backgrounds in Quelea. It's always been at the back of my mind as a wish list feature, so I bumped it as a priority to look at for the next major version. See, this is the effect you can have if you post what features you'd like to see! ;)

Better Mac support getting closer

A few days ago, Oracle released a Java 7 Runtime for Mac OSX Lion, something which had only been available up until then as early access developer preview builds. This meant it was possible to run Quelea on a Mac with effort, but pretty much impossible to package it up nicely so it was easy for the average user to install and run.

Video backgrounds

I've always wanted to implement video backgrounds, but the technical complexity and issues to work around have always put me off from implementing it thus far. However, after a couple more people have asked about it, I've decided the next major release is probably the time, providing we don't run into any unforseen difficulties.

I've started to do some work and a few hurdles have been solved, but there's still quite a lot to do. But all going well, the next version of Quelea should support nice looking video backgrounds. Swish!

Better bibles, and Happy Easter!

I'm not really sure what order the phrases in that title should have come in... but you should get the gist!

I've now implemented much better Bible support in Quelea. What this means is that as well as just grabbing a section from a version based on the verse and chapter numbers, there's two extra related functions:

Better Powerpoint support

Quelea has had powerpoint support of sorts for a while now, but that's had two main disadvantages:

  • It's only supported PPT, not PPTX
  • It's only displayed a static image of each slide

The advantage with how we've done it up until now is that it doesn't require any other software to be installed, indeed it relies on 100% Java libraries that should work on any system. That's good, and it's functionality we want to retain - but sometimes things call for a bit more.

Back to the future

As far as I know, all the things that need fixing in the current major version have been sorted - it's been given a thorough testing and while it's possible minor issues may remain, I'm pretty certain there's nothing major that's lurking in the shadows. So I'm leaving it there, and pushing forward with ideas for the next major release, 0.6.

0.5.1 released!

After fixing a couple more minor bugs we found in testing, 0.5.1 has now been officially released. Enjoy, and as always if you have any feedback just let us know!

0.5.1 (RC) is out for testing

The next minor release of Quelea is now out for testing. There's a few things that have changed with this release, some bugfixes and some new (minor) features:
